AJS Hotels Louisville History

AJS Hotels began as the Al J. Schneider Company under the visionary Mr. Al J. Schneider.

Mr. Schneider’s legacy began in 1938 when he started laying the foundation of the Al J. Schneider Company, which would officially be born in 1947. During World War II, he built barracks and other military facilities at Fort Knox. Over the course of 50 years, he would build and own four of the largest hotels in Louisville, including the Galt House Hotel, the Executive Inn and Executive West (now known as the Crowne Plaza Louisville Airport), the Waterfront Office Tower and One Riverfront Plaza, as well as many other commercial properties throughout Louisville.

Mr. Schneider’s devout support of the Catholic Church is seen throughout Louisville — the spire at the Cathedral of the Assumption, and the many Catholic churches and schools he built throughout Louisville.

Mr. Schneider passed away in 2001, but his legacy lives on through his family, our team members, and the vision he saw for Louisville. His impact on the city of Louisville is a lasting testament to his love for his hometown.
